The Area of cilentano
For centuries the Cilento has inspired poets and singers. Many of the Greek and Roman myths, at the base of our Western culture, have been set on its shores: from the myth of the Sirens, in the Odyssey, to that of the evil creatures, ending with the myth of Palinuro. The thread of Cilento’s history unfolds up to the present day by sewing big and small events; suspending itself as a land between past and progress, between future and memory. Traces, memories, monuments, culture, trails linked to this rich history are now safeguarded thanks to the Cilento National Park, and to these recent acknowledgments; as the inclusion of Cilento in the Mab-Unesco biosphere network. And it is in this tangle, made of men and nature, wealth and austerity that Rutino rises. In a complex mix, where the magic and the timeless melt into everyday fatigue, Rutino unravels his story at the edge of the S.S 18 that runs through it. Today the country has become the emblem of a slow and full of humanity style of life in contrast with the speed and aggressiveness implied by progress. This is the spirit of the place, which inspires its inhabitants in the strenuous defense and in the passionate recovery of an agri-food heritage and an unrivaled wine production. Local vines that find in the clayey-limestone nature of the soil and in the climate of the area, the conditions to best express their personality.

Soil
The most vine area lies in the clayey and sandy deposits around the coast up to the hills where there is a particular terroir named “Flish Cilentano”, which defines a calcareous clay soil with clay, sandstone and marl. This soil favors the production of grapes with a rather high acidity level, giving wines intense colors, good structure and fine quality.
Climate
Cantine Barone is located in the Alto Cilento, a territory crossed by the river Alento, and is delimited between Monte Stella and Punta Licosa. In these places the Mediterranean climate is strongly influenced by the presence of the sea and by marked daily temperature variations. The constant sea breeze creates a mild climate all year round which facilitates ripening.
Vines
The Cilento DOC includes the province of Salerno, a large area southeast of the capital.
In these areas the native vines are widespread as the Greek, the Piedirosso, the Tintore, and so on; but Fiano and Aglianico are the main interpreters of the territory. Powerful and soft wines that recall the sun and the strength of the earth they express.
